Intercom Pricing Explained (2026): Seats, Fin, and Real Totals

Intercom pricing has two parts: a monthly fee for each teammate seat, and a usage fee for each Fin AI Agent outcome. The seat price is easy to find. The Fin part depends on how many conversations the bot closes, so the real bill is hard to see before the first invoice.

This post builds that bill before you commit. It covers current plan and add-on prices, Intercom’s own definition of a billable Fin outcome, and line-by-line monthly totals for three setups. All prices come from intercom.com/pricing, fin.ai/pricing, and Intercom’s help center, checked on October 1, 2026. All prices are in US dollars.

For pricing models in general, read how much an AI support agent costs.

Intercom pricing plans and seat prices

Every plan includes Fin AI Agent and needs at least 1 full seat. Seats cost less on annual billing.

PlanFull seat, billed annuallyFull seat, billed monthlyLite seats includedFin AI Agent
Essential$29$39None$0.99 per outcome
Advanced$85$9920$0.99 per outcome
Expert$132$13950$0.99 per outcome

Annual prices are from the pricing page. Monthly prices are from Intercom’s seats help article.

Essential includes Messenger, a shared inbox and ticketing, pre-built reports, and a public help center. Advanced adds multiple team inboxes, the workflows automation builder, and round robin assignment. Expert adds SSO, HIPAA support, SLAs, and multibrand. If your team needs workflows or round robin, you are on Advanced, and the seat price nearly triples.

Three details change the total:

Fin pricing: what counts as a billable outcome

Intercom bills Fin per “outcome”, at most once per conversation. A resolution is one type of outcome. Intercom’s Fin outcomes help article defines it like this:

A resolution is a type of outcome that is counted when, following Fin’s last answer in a conversation, the customer either confirms the answer was satisfactory (confirmed resolution), or exits the conversation without requesting further assistance (assumed resolution).

The same article lists the other outcome types:

OutcomeWhat triggers itPrice
ResolutionThe customer confirms, or leaves without asking for more help$0.99
Procedure handoff”Fin successfully executes a Procedure that you’ve configured to end in a handoff to a human or a workflow.”$0.99
Disqualification (sales)Fin decides a prospect does not match your criteria$0.99
Self-serve routing (sales)Fin sends a prospect to a self-serve route, such as a trial signup$0.99
Qualification (sales)Fin matches a prospect to your criteria and routes them, such as to book a call$9.99

These events are not billed, per the same article:

Four billing rules that surprise teams

  1. A silent exit counts as a resolution. If a frustrated customer reads Fin’s answer and leaves, Intercom counts an assumed resolution and charges $0.99. Intercom’s advice is to set escalation rules so Fin hands off when it detects frustration. Those escalations are not billed.
  2. Some handoffs are billed. A handoff through a Procedure you built is a billable outcome. A handoff by Fin’s default logic or your workspace rules is not. Two handoffs that look the same in the inbox can cost different amounts.
  3. A teammate’s close does not cancel the charge. If Fin answered from your content and the customer did not ask for more help, the conversation still counts as a resolution when a teammate assigns it to themselves or closes it.
  4. A request for a human can still be billed. If the customer asks for a person, your “collect information” setting is on, and the customer goes quiet before answering, Intercom counts a resolution.

The result: your billed outcomes can be higher than the resolution rate on the Fin dashboard. Intercom defines that metric as the share of conversations Fin resolves “without human involvement”. Procedure handoffs are billed but can involve a human. Forecast cost from billed outcomes on the usage page, not from the dashboard rate. Our post on support KPIs shows how to track repeat questions, which catches “assumed resolutions” that were really abandoned conversations.

Add-ons and usage fees

All plans include live chat, support email, in-app chats, banners, tooltips, and inbound WhatsApp conversations with no usage charge. Emails you receive and send from the inbox are free. Everything in this table is extra.

ItemPriceWhat you get
Copilot$29 per agent/month billed annually, $35 billed monthlyAI assistant in the inbox. Without it, each agent still gets 10 Copilot and 10 AI auto-translation conversations free per month.
ProFrom $99/monthOperator and AI analytics. Covers 1,000 conversations and 2,000 Operator credits. Then $0.12 per conversation up to 5,000, and $0.01 per extra credit.
Proactive Support Plus$99/monthPosts, product tours, checklists, surveys, mobile push, carousels, and Series. 500 messages sent included, then from $0.07 per message.
SMSFrom $0.06 per segment (US, Canada), $0.09 (UK, Australia)Charged per segment sent or received, from the first one. The US rate drops to $0.01 above 100,000 segments.
Bulk emailFrom $0.045 per emailOutbound campaigns and Series. The rate drops with volume.
Outbound WhatsAppFrom $0.10 per messageTeammate-initiated campaigns and Series. The rate drops to $0.07 above 10,000.
PhoneNot published on the pricing pageBilled by region for numbers and minutes. Intercom links to a separate rate table.
Fin VoiceNot publishedContact sales.

Channel prices are from Intercom’s usage-based channels article. SMS counts both directions: 1,500 US segments in a month cost $57.50 ($30 + $15 + $12.50 across the first three tiers).

Worked monthly totals

These are our examples, not Intercom benchmarks. Assumptions: US customers, chat and inbox email only, so no channel usage fees. No add-ons unless stated. You choose the outcome count.

Example 1: 2 seats, 300 Fin outcomes

LineAnnual billingMonthly billing
Seats: 2 on Essential2 × $29 = $582 × $39 = $78
Fin: 300 outcomes300 × $0.99 = $297300 × $0.99 = $297
Total per month$355$375

Fin is 84% of the annual-billing total ($297 ÷ $355). Copilot for both agents adds 2 × $29 = $58, for $413.

Example 2: 5 seats, 1,000 Fin outcomes

LineEssential, annualAdvanced, annualAdvanced, monthly
Seats: 55 × $29 = $1455 × $85 = $4255 × $99 = $495
Fin: 1,000 outcomes1,000 × $0.99 = $990$990$990
Total per month$1,135$1,415$1,485

On Essential, the Fin line is almost 7 times the seat line. At this volume, the outcome count matters more than the plan choice. On annual billing, Intercom bills seats and add-ons ahead and usage after the month ends. So you pay 12 × $145 = $1,740 for seats up front, then about $990 each month for Fin.

Example 3: Fin on top of another help desk

Intercom sells Fin alone for teams that keep their current help desk. The fin.ai pricing page names Salesforce, HubSpot, Freshworks, Dixa, Front, Zoho, Sprinklr, and Gorgias. The terms: $0.99 per outcome, no seat costs, no setup or integration fees, and a minimum of 50 outcomes per month. This option goes through sales. Contract terms beyond that minimum are not published.

Line30 outcomes300 outcomes1,000 outcomes
Fin outcomesMinimum applies: 50 × $0.99 = $49.50300 × $0.99 = $2971,000 × $0.99 = $990
Intercom seats$0$0$0
Intercom total$49.50$297$990

Your current help desk seats stay on that vendor’s invoice. Copilot is available for Salesforce at $35 per user per month.

The better the bot, the higher the bill

Hold the team at 5 Essential seats on annual billing ($145) and 2,000 conversations a month. Change only the share of conversations that end in a billed outcome. This example assumes every billed outcome is a resolution.

Billed outcome rateBilled outcomesFin costMonthly totalConversations left for people
30%600$594$7391,400
45%900$891$1,0361,100
60%1,200$1,188$1,333800
75%1,500$1,485$1,630500

Each 15-point improvement adds $297 a month. The rate per outcome never changes. The bill grows because every extra conversation Fin closes is one more $0.99 charge.

Use this decision rule. Fin saves money when one human-handled conversation costs you more than $0.99. If you know that number, multiply it by the conversations Fin takes off the queue and compare the result with the Fin line. If you do not know it, budget on the Fin line alone and expect it to grow as your content improves. Volume spikes work the same way: a launch that doubles conversations doubles the Fin line.

The startup discount: Early Stage program

Intercom’s Early Stage program is open today. To qualify, you need up to $10M in funding, fewer than 15 employees, and no current Intercom account.

YearDiscountFin outcomes included per month
193% off300
250% off150
325% off75

The plan includes 2 Advanced seats, 2 Copilot seats, 20 Lite seats, Proactive Support Plus with 500 messages, 15 Fin qualifications per month, and 1,000 Pro conversations analyzed per month. Intercom says it starts “from just $33/month” in year 1. The discount does not apply to extra outcomes, qualifications, phone, SMS, or WhatsApp. You pay list price for those.

Apply it to Example 1 (2 seats, 300 outcomes):

If you leave the program, you lose the year 2 and year 3 discounts. Intercom names Essential at $39 per seat per month as the fallback.

When Intercom is worth the price

Intercom is the stronger choice in these cases:

Intercom pricing vs a flat plan

SupportHQ prices the other way. Starter is $29/month for 2,000 conversations and 5 projects. Growth is $49/month for 3,000 conversations and unlimited projects. Both include the AI agent and unlimited team members. There are no per-seat fees and no per-resolution fees.

In Example 2, if total conversations stay at or under 2,000 a month, Starter covers the 5-person team at $29. In the 75% row above, at 2,000 conversations (Starter’s ceiling), the bill is still $29. A better resolution rate does not change it. Our AI support pricing page shows the full plan breakdown.

SupportHQ is not a full Intercom replacement. It has no email inbox, no product tours, no outbound messaging, no SMS or phone, no WhatsApp yet, and no large app ecosystem. The agent answers only from approved content and does not take actions in other systems. It covers your website chat, Telegram, and Discord in one inbox, and it escalates with a reason, urgency, and summary. The side-by-side table is on our Intercom alternative page.

Before you commit: a six-step check

  1. Run the 14-day trial. It needs no card. Intercom does not charge for full seats during a trial, and fin.ai says Fin outcomes are unlimited.
  2. Read billed outcomes, not the resolution rate. At the end of the trial, open Settings > Subscription > Usage. Multiply the outcome count by 30 and divide by 14 for a monthly estimate.
  3. Count everyone who replies to customers. Each person needs a full seat. Lite seats do not reply.
  4. Add frustration and “talk to a human” escalation rules. Without them, some unhappy exits become billed resolutions. Our human handoff guide has rules you can copy.
  5. Set a Fin hard limit at your budget before the first paid month.
  6. Rerun the totals at 2× volume. If the number still works, the plan fits.

If the flat model fits your channels better, compare it on our pricing page or start a 7-day trial (card required) and run the same conversations through it.
